A very large and rarely seen Filefish in the trade. I can be found either in one of two color phases, its known coloration of dark brown/olive with white spots or completely orange without any spots. |

The White Spotted Filefish (Cantherhines macrocerus) is sometimes called an Orange Filefish. It belongs to the family named Monacanthidae. Typically reaching a max size of about 15.0 inches in length, the White Spotted Filefish is passive in nature and moderately hardy in stamina. It's more active during the daytime and less at night, and will hang out or do best in the middle tank area. According to FishDB current data, captive breeding success is unreported and there are no external signs of sexual differences. Cantherhines macrocerus should not be housed in a tank less than 180 gallons in size. Tank parameters should be maintained with ph level between 8.1 - 8.4, temperature between 77 - 79 degrees fahrenheit, and a salinity between 1.020 - 1.023. Some of the environmental concerns that you should strive to replicate in your home aquaria to promote succesful acclimation include extra swimming area, plenty of hiding places, a stable cave/sheltering ledge, and a well established aquarium.
