Native to the chilly waters off of Australia's coast, these majestic creatures are amazing to witness. They get their names from the coloration and markings on their bodies. It makes it easy for them to blend into the tall weeds of their natural environment. Some things were best left in the wild. These are one of them. The Weedy Seadragon (Phyllopteryx taeniolatus) belongs to the family named Syngnathidae. Typically reaching a max size of about 18.0 inches in length, the Weedy Seadragon is passive in nature and risky in stamina. It's more active during the daytime and less at night, and will hang out or do best in the middle tank area. According to FishDB current data, captive breeding success is unreported and there are no external signs of sexual differences. Phyllopteryx taeniolatus should not be housed in a tank less than 100 gallons in size. Tank parameters should be maintained with ph level between 8.1 - 8.3, temperature between 77 - 79 degrees fahrenheit, and a salinity between 1.020 - 1.023. Some of the environmental concerns that you should strive to replicate in your home aquaria to promote succesful acclimation include extra swimming area, plenty of hiding places, a species only tank, a well established aquarium, and high water quality.
