notes
A very popular Butterfly fish in the trade. However, as usual, with beauty comes some negatives. It will accept a wide range of foods and will eat undesirable growth from your live rock as well, unfortunately it will also eat the desirable growth too. Also, it is one of the more aggressive of its family, so unless introduced together, usually only one per tank especially with same coloration.
overview

The Threadfin Butterflyfish (Chaetodon auriga) is sometimes called an Auriga Butterfly. It belongs to the family named Chaetodontidae. Typically reaching a max size of about 9.0 inches in length, the Threadfin Butterflyfish is semi-aggressive in nature and moderately hardy in stamina. It's more active during the daytime and less at night, and will hang out across the entire tank. According to FishDB current data, captive breeding success is unreported and there are no external signs of sexual differences. Chaetodon auriga should not be housed in a tank less than 75 gallons in size. Tank parameters should be maintained with ph level between 8.1 - 8.3, temperature between 77 - 79 degrees fahrenheit, and a salinity between 1.020 - 1.023. Some of the environmental concerns that you should strive to replicate in your home aquaria to promote succesful acclimation include extra swimming area, plenty of hiding places, and a well established aquarium.
