Considered the hardiest of the Batfish, this one is still as prone to ich. However, given the right conditions to thrive, the Teira Batfish can become quite tame. It has been know to eat from the owners hand as well as even be "petted" by its owner. A terrific fish for the experienced aquarist with a lot of swimming room. |

The Teira Batfish (Platax teira) is sometimes called a Longfin Batfish, a Round-faced Batfish, or a Longfin Platax. It belongs to the family named Ephippididae. Typically reaching a max size of about 24.0 inches in length, the Teira Batfish is passive in nature and moderately hardy in stamina. It's more active during the daytime and less at night, and will hang out across the entire tank. According to FishDB current data, captive breeding success is unreported and there are no external signs of sexual differences. Platax teira should not be housed in a tank less than 200 gallons in size. Tank parameters should be maintained with ph level between 8.1 - 8.4, temperature between 77 - 79 degrees fahrenheit, and a salinity between 1.020 - 1.023. Some of the environmental concerns that you should strive to replicate in your home aquaria to promote succesful acclimation include extra swimming area and high water quality.
