A true behemouth of the puffer world. This one probably will not grow larger than 2 feet in captivity, however it is know to get over 4 feet in the wild. So, obviously a very large tank will be needed if you decide to tackle this one. Very destructive in a reef tank, so best kept in a fish only environment, but probably best left in the wild. |

The Starry Puffer (Arothron stellatus) is sometimes called a Stellate Puffer. It belongs to the family named Tetraodontidae. Typically reaching a max size of about 48.0 inches in length, the Starry Puffer is generally passive in nature and moderately hardy in stamina. It's more active during the evening hours or at night and less so during the day, and will hang out across the entire tank. According to FishDB current data, captive breeding success is unreported and there are no external signs of sexual differences. Arothron stellatus should not be housed in a tank less than 300 gallons in size. Tank parameters should be maintained with ph level between 8.1 - 8.3, temperature between 77 - 79 degrees fahrenheit, and a salinity between 1.020 - 1.023. Some of the environmental concerns that you should strive to replicate in your home aquaria to promote succesful acclimation include extra swimming area and a stable cave/sheltering ledge.
