The egg featured here is that of a Brownbanded Bamboo Shark. Their hardy eggs are frequently sold in the trade and usually take anywhere from 130-160 days to hatch, which can depend heavily on the temperature of the tank. But these little beauties grow up fast, as much as one foot of growth can occur in a years time. Check the entry Brownbanded Bamboo Shark for more information. |

The Shark Egg (Chiloscyllium sp.) is sometimes called a Brownbanded Bamboo Shark Egg or a Black Banded Cat Shark Egg. It belongs to the family named Orectolobidae. Typically reaching a max size of about 4.0 inches in length, the Shark Egg is aggressive in nature and hardy in stamina. It's more active during the daytime and less at night, and will hang out or do best in the lower tank area. According to FishDB current data, captive breeding success is unreported and there are no external signs of sexual differences. Chiloscyllium sp. should not be housed in a tank less than 180 gallons in size. Tank parameters should be maintained with ph level between 8.1 - 8.3, temperature between 77 - 79 degrees fahrenheit, and a salinity between 1.020 - 1.023. Some of the environmental concerns that you should strive to replicate in your home aquaria to promote succesful acclimation include extra swimming area, a fine substrate, and a stable cave/sheltering ledge.
