The Scimitar is more plain in appearance then some of its relatives, however it still makes a handsome display. This trigger is not as peaceful as the Niger or Pinktail, yet it is not near as aggresive as the Queen or Undulate. If a large specimen is desired it is best to indroduce to the tank last, as it may harass newcomers. Defiantely not reef safe, because it will damage most invertebrates. |

The Scimitar Triggerfish (Sufflamen bursa) is sometimes called a Scythe Triggerfish, a Pallid Triggerfish, or a Bursa Triggerfish. It belongs to the family named Balistidae. Typically reaching a max size of about 10.0 inches in length, the Scimitar Triggerfish is semi-aggressive in nature and hardy in stamina. It's more active during the daytime and less at night, and will hang out across the entire tank. According to FishDB current data, captive breeding success is unreported and there are no external signs of sexual differences. Sufflamen bursa should not be housed in a tank less than 55 gallons in size. Tank parameters should be maintained with ph level between 8.1 - 8.3, temperature between 77 - 79 degrees fahrenheit, and a salinity between 1.020 - 1.023. Some of the environmental concerns that you should strive to replicate in your home aquaria to promote succesful acclimation include plenty of hiding places.
