notes
An amazing display of beauty and grace combined with a sinister stare, create a swimming display like no other. However, their ultra-thin body posses a problem, they can escape from just about anywhere. They swim into overflows, intakes, and tubing without a second thought. That isn't their only downfall however. They are difficult to acclimate to captivity and may starve themselves as a result.
overview

The Ribbon Eel (Rhinomuraena quaesita) is sometimes called a Black Ribbon Eel, a Blue Ribbon Eel, a Black Ribbon Eel (Juvenile), a Blue Ribbon Eel (Male), or a Yellow Ribbon Eel (Female). It belongs to the family named Muraenidae. Typically reaching a max size of about 47.0 inches in length, the Ribbon Eel is generally passive in nature and sensitive in stamina. It's more active during the daytime and less at night, and will hang out or do best in the lower tank area. According to FishDB current data, captive breeding success is unreported. External sexual differences are limited to the fact that male is blue/female is yellow/juvenile is black. Rhinomuraena quaesita should not be housed in a tank less than 30 gallons in size. Tank parameters should be maintained with ph level between 8.1 - 8.3, temperature between 77 - 79 degrees fahrenheit, and a salinity between 1.020 - 1.023. Some of the environmental concerns that you should strive to replicate in your home aquaria to promote succesful acclimation include extra swimming area, extra substrate area, plenty of hiding places, and a mixed substrate.
