A terrific beginner coral for those with moderate to strong lighting. Under the right lighting and moderate water flow, they are for the most part self-sufficent. It will enjoy occasional supplemental feedings of filter feeder foods, but it is not neccesary in a well established aquarium. The Red Brain will glow bright under actinic lighting. Do not place directly next to other corals. |

The Red Trachyphyllia Brain Coral (Trachyphyllia radiata) is sometimes called a Pacific Rose Coral or a Red Open Brain Coral. It belongs to the family named Trachyphylliidae. Typically reaching a max size of about 6 inches in diameter, the Red Trachyphyllia Brain Coral is semi-aggressive in nature and hardy in stamina. It's more active during the daytime and less at night, and will hang out or do best in the substrate. According to FishDB current data, captive breeding success is unreported and there are no external signs of sexual differences. Trachyphyllia radiata in general should have bright (4 watts/gallon) light to thrive. Tank parameters should be maintained with ph level between 8.1 - 8.4, temperature between 77 - 79 degrees fahrenheit, and a salinity between 1.020 - 1.023. Some of the environmental concerns that you should strive to replicate in your home aquaria to promote succesful acclimation include a well established aquarium and a moderate water current.
