The Purple Tilefish is an attractive addition to a calm, peaceful environment. However, most do not acclimate to captive life well. They actually will accept foods readily and have no problems eating. The problem begins in capture and shipping, where they are stressed. Once in your tank, the problem is they are very timid and easily startled, often jumping from the tank or crashing into decor. |

The Purple Tilefish (Hoplolatilus purpureus) is sometimes called a Purple Tilefish Goby. It belongs to the family named Malacanthidae. Typically reaching a max size of about 5.0 inches in length, the Purple Tilefish is generally passive in nature and sensitive in stamina. It's more active during the daytime and less at night, and will hang out across the entire tank. According to FishDB current data, captive breeding success is good and there are no external signs of sexual differences. Hoplolatilus purpureus should not be housed in a tank less than 55 gallons in size. Tank parameters should be maintained with ph level between 8.1 - 8.3, temperature between 77 - 79 degrees fahrenheit, and a salinity between 1.020 - 1.023. Some of the environmental concerns that you should strive to replicate in your home aquaria to promote succesful acclimation include extra swimming area, keep 3 or more, a mixed substrate, a deep substrate, and a peaceful environment.
