notes
The Porkfish is also called a Grunt for the unusual sound it creates by grinding its teeth together. Though this fish is caught more for human consumption than keeping, it does find its way to fish stores occasionally. If small specimens can be found they can be added to the tank together, and they will usually school together in captivity. Its coloration will improve with age.
overview

The Porkfish (Anisotremus virginicus) belongs to the family named Haemulidae. Typically reaching a max size of about 15.9 inches in length, the Porkfish is passive in nature and hardy in stamina. It's more active during the daytime and less at night, and will hang out or do best in the substrate. According to FishDB current data, captive breeding success is unreported and there are no external signs of sexual differences. Anisotremus virginicus should not be housed in a tank less than 140 gallons in size. Tank parameters should be maintained with ph level between 8.1 - 8.3, temperature between 77 - 79 degrees fahrenheit, and a salinity between 1.020 - 1.023. Some of the environmental concerns that you should strive to replicate in your home aquaria to promote succesful acclimation include extra swimming area and a stable cave/sheltering ledge.
