This species is very similar to seahorses in their feeding and care. They do not fair well with other fish as they may never get enough to eat or may be harrassed by other bottom dwelling fish. Can be housed with seahorses but may not leave them much to eat at feeding time. |

The Messmate Pipefish (Corythoichthys intestinalis) is sometimes called a Dragon Pipefish or a Scribble Pipefish. It belongs to the family named Syngnathidae. Typically reaching a max size of about 7.0 inches in length, the Messmate Pipefish is passive in nature and sensitive in stamina. It's more active during the daytime and less at night, and will hang out or do best in the lower tank area. According to FishDB current data, captive breeding success is unreported and there are no external signs of sexual differences. Corythoichthys intestinalis should not be housed in a tank less than 20 gallons in size. Tank parameters should be maintained with ph level between 8.1 - 8.3, temperature between 77 - 79 degrees fahrenheit, and a salinity between 1.020 - 1.023.
