The Maroon Clownfish is one of the largest of all anemonefish and is one of the most aggresive. This fish should never be with other anemonefish or smaller, passive fish. It associates best with a Bubbletip (Entacmaea quadricolor) Anemone, and if a male/female pair is achieved, then they will both inhabit the same one. Check the Yellowstripe Maroon listing for a variation. |

The Maroon Clownfish (Premnas biaculeatus) is sometimes called a Maroon Anemonefish or a Spinecheek Anemonefish. It belongs to the family named Pomacentridae. Typically reaching a max size of about 6.0 inches in length, the Maroon Clownfish is aggressive in nature and hardy in stamina. It's more active during the daytime and less at night, and will hang out across the entire tank. According to FishDB current data, captive breeding success is good and there are no external signs of sexual differences. Premnas biaculeatus should not be housed in a tank less than 30 gallons in size. Tank parameters should be maintained with ph level between 8.1 - 8.3, temperature between 77 - 79 degrees fahrenheit, and a salinity between 1.020 - 1.023.
