This puffer can provide very stunning coloration if cared for well. However, care for this one is best left up to the experienced. Not only does it require a huge tank, but deworming may be nessecary at times. Also, the teeth need to be monitored since they can get overgrown and need filing down. The pros, a true beauty who gets along with almost other fish, even other puffers. |

The Map Puffer (Arothron mappa) is sometimes called a Scribbled Arothron Puffer or a Scribbled Toadfish. It belongs to the family named Tetraodontidae. Typically reaching a max size of about 26.0 inches in length, the Map Puffer is generally passive in nature and moderately hardy in stamina. It's more active during the evening hours or at night and less so during the day, and will hang out across the entire tank. According to FishDB current data, captive breeding success is unreported and there are no external signs of sexual differences. Arothron mappa should not be housed in a tank less than 250 gallons in size. Tank parameters should be maintained with ph level between 8.1 - 8.3, temperature between 77 - 79 degrees fahrenheit, and a salinity between 1.020 - 1.023. Some of the environmental concerns that you should strive to replicate in your home aquaria to promote succesful acclimation include extra swimming area and a stable cave/sheltering ledge.
