Given the right conditions this can be a very hardy coral and at the same time add a bit of flare to your reef tank. It basically needs what most corals do, great water quality in a well established aquarium under strong lighting. This particular coral is easier since it can thrive under many different types of lighting given the right amount (i.e. power compacts, VHO, metal halides). |

The Leaf Plate Coral (Montipora sp.) is sometimes called a Montipora Coral or a Vase Coral. It belongs to the family named Acropoidae. The Leaf Plate Coral is passive in nature and moderately hardy in stamina. It's more active during the daytime and less at night. According to FishDB current data, captive breeding success is unreported and there are no external signs of sexual differences. Montipora sp. in general should have extra bright (5+ watts/gallon) light to thrive. Tank parameters should be maintained with ph level between 8.1 - 8.3, temperature between 77 - 79 degrees fahrenheit, and a salinity between 1.020 - 1.023. Some of the environmental concerns that you should strive to replicate in your home aquaria to promote succesful acclimation include a well established aquarium, high water quality, and a moderate water current.
