This specimen is regarded as the mechanic, not overly attractive but serving a cleanup role. They will graze on almost all kinds of algae and keep it relatively under control in your tank. This surgeonfish may be the victim of other conspecifics or sugeonfish harassments. Best kept singly. |

The Kole (Ctenochaetus strigosus) is sometimes called a Goldring Bristletooth, a Yelloweye Bristletooth, or a Yelloweye Surgeonfish. It belongs to the family named Acanthuridae. Typically reaching a max size of about 7.0 inches in length, the Kole is generally passive in nature and moderately hardy in stamina. It's more active during the daytime and less at night, and will hang out or do best in the middle tank area. According to FishDB current data, captive breeding success is unreported and there are no external signs of sexual differences. Ctenochaetus strigosus should not be housed in a tank less than 75 gallons in size. Tank parameters should be maintained with ph level between 8.1 - 8.3, temperature between 77 - 79 degrees fahrenheit, and a salinity between 1.020 - 1.023. Some of the environmental concerns that you should strive to replicate in your home aquaria to promote succesful acclimation include a well established aquarium.
