This is one butterflyfish that has a better chance at being housed in a reef aquarium but will nip at some leather coral polyps. But house it with some of the more noxious variety of corals to improve chances. |

The Klein's Butterflyfish (Chaetodon kleinii) is sometimes called a Brown Butterflyfish, a Corallicola Butterflyfish, or a Blacklip Butterflyfish. It belongs to the family named Chaetodontidae. Typically reaching a max size of about 5.6 inches in length, the Klein's Butterflyfish is generally passive in nature and moderately hardy in stamina. Based on the particular specimen you acquire and its environment, the time when it is most active can fluctuate day or night, and will hang out across the entire tank. According to FishDB current data, captive breeding success is unreported and there are no external signs of sexual differences. Chaetodon kleinii should not be housed in a tank less than 55 gallons in size. Tank parameters should be maintained with ph level between 8.1 - 8.3, temperature between 77 - 79 degrees fahrenheit, and a salinity between 1.020 - 1.023. Some of the environmental concerns that you should strive to replicate in your home aquaria to promote succesful acclimation include extra swimming area and a stable cave/sheltering ledge.
