When people think of eels, the image of the Green Moray typically comes to mind. It is one of the largest members of the Gymnothorax genus. As with most eels, it will eat most anything that it can fit into its mouth. Always exhibit care and caution with eels, especially of this size. Once acclimated and used to accepting foods from the aquarist, the hand may be mistaken as a meal. |

The Green Moray (Gymnothorax funebris) belongs to the family named Muraenidae. Typically reaching a max size of about 90.0 inches in length, the Green Moray is aggressive in nature and hardy in stamina. It's more active during the daytime and less at night, and will hang out or do best in the lower tank area. According to FishDB current data, captive breeding success is unreported and there are no external signs of sexual differences. Gymnothorax funebris should not be housed in a tank less than 100 gallons in size. Tank parameters should be maintained with ph level between 8.1 - 8.3, temperature between 77 - 79 degrees fahrenheit, and a salinity between 1.020 - 1.023. Some of the environmental concerns that you should strive to replicate in your home aquaria to promote succesful acclimation include extra swimming area and a stable cave/sheltering ledge.
