Very similar in appearance to Acropora, but it is much more difficult to maintain. As with other SPS Corals, great water quality, light intensity and supplements are a must for survival. The green variation is often times refered to as "Fluorescent Horn Coral", and can look quite terrific under actinic lighting. |

The Green Hydnophora Horn Coral (Hydnophora sp.) is sometimes called a Green Knob Coral, a Green Velvet Horn Coral, or a Green Fluorescent Horn Coral. It belongs to the family named Merulinidae. Typically reaching a max size of about 6 inches in diameter, the Green Hydnophora Horn Coral is passive in nature and sensitive in stamina. It's more active during the daytime and less at night. According to FishDB current data, captive breeding success is good and there are no external signs of sexual differences. Hydnophora sp. in general should have extra bright (5+ watts/gallon) light to thrive. Tank parameters should be maintained with ph level between 8.1 - 8.4, temperature between 77 - 79 degrees fahrenheit, and a salinity between 1.020 - 1.023. Some of the environmental concerns that you should strive to replicate in your home aquaria to promote succesful acclimation include a well established aquarium, high water quality, a strong water current, a moderate water current, and a fluctuating water current.
