The Crosshatch is fairly passive in nature. It is, for the most part, reef safe and will usually behave well with most tankmates as long as they are its size or larger. If you desire to have a group of them(only one male), introduce all of them simultaneously into a large tank. Best added to the tank last since it may pick on newcomers. |

The Crosshatch Triggerfish (Xanthichthys mento) is sometimes called a Blue Cheekline Triggerfish. It belongs to the family named Balistidae. Typically reaching a max size of about 12.0 inches in length, the Crosshatch Triggerfish is generally passive in nature and hardy in stamina. It's more active during the daytime and less at night, and will hang out across the entire tank. According to FishDB current data, captive breeding success is unreported and there are no external signs of sexual differences. Xanthichthys mento should not be housed in a tank less than 75 gallons in size. Tank parameters should be maintained with ph level between 8.1 - 8.3, temperature between 77 - 79 degrees fahrenheit, and a salinity between 1.020 - 1.023. Some of the environmental concerns that you should strive to replicate in your home aquaria to promote succesful acclimation include extra swimming area, plenty of hiding places, and a strong water current.
