notes
A hardy and attractive fish. The Coral Hogfish is a case of fish changing personalies as they get older. When they are young they are reef safe and even help clean parasites from their tankmates. As they age, they start to become bullies towards smaller fish and are not longer reef safe since they will eat shrimp, clams, worms, and snails.
overview

The Coral Hogfish (Bodianus mesothorax) is sometimes called a Mesothorax Hogfish or an Eclipse Hogfish. It belongs to the family named Labridae. Typically reaching a max size of about 7.6 inches in length, the Coral Hogfish is aggressive in nature and hardy in stamina. It's more active during the daytime and less at night, and will hang out across the entire tank. According to FishDB current data, captive breeding success is unreported and there are no external signs of sexual differences. Bodianus mesothorax should not be housed in a tank less than 75 gallons in size. Tank parameters should be maintained with ph level between 8.1 - 8.3, temperature between 77 - 79 degrees fahrenheit, and a salinity between 1.020 - 1.023. Some of the environmental concerns that you should strive to replicate in your home aquaria to promote succesful acclimation include plenty of hiding places.
