The Clearfin Lionfish is more like the typical lionfish, in that it will eat anything it can fit in its mouth and catch. It differs from its cousin, Spotfin Lionfish, in that it is missing the small spots on its pectoral fins. |

The Clearfin Lionfish (Pterois radiata) is sometimes called a Radiata Lionfish. It belongs to the family named Scorpaenidae. Typically reaching a max size of about 10.0 inches in length, the Clearfin Lionfish is generally passive in nature and moderately hardy in stamina. Based on the particular specimen you acquire and its environment, the time when it is most active can fluctuate day or night, and will hang out across the entire tank. According to FishDB current data, captive breeding success is unreported and there are no external signs of sexual differences. Pterois radiata should not be housed in a tank less than 30 gallons in size. Tank parameters should be maintained with ph level between 8.1 - 8.3, temperature between 77 - 79 degrees fahrenheit, and a salinity between 1.020 - 1.023. Some of the environmental concerns that you should strive to replicate in your home aquaria to promote succesful acclimation include plenty of hiding places and a stable cave/sheltering ledge.
