The Chevron Tang is a great addition to most tank setups. They are peaceful and spend their days grazing on microalgae. Juveniles are a bold yellow, as they mature into aduts they will transition to more of an olive color. This surgeonfish may be the victim of other conspecifics or sugeonfish harassments. Best kept one per tank. |

The Chevron Tang (Ctenochaetus hawaiiensis) is sometimes called a Black Surgeonfish, a Hawaiian Surgeonfish, or a Hawaiian Bristletooth. It belongs to the family named Acanthuridae. Typically reaching a max size of about 11.2 inches in length, the Chevron Tang is passive in nature and moderately hardy in stamina. It's more active during the daytime and less at night, and will hang out across the entire tank. According to FishDB current data, captive breeding success is unreported and there are no external signs of sexual differences. Ctenochaetus hawaiiensis should not be housed in a tank less than 75 gallons in size. Tank parameters should be maintained with ph level between 8.1 - 8.3, temperature between 77 - 79 degrees fahrenheit, and a salinity between 1.020 - 1.023. Some of the environmental concerns that you should strive to replicate in your home aquaria to promote succesful acclimation include plenty of hiding places and a well established aquarium.
