Terrific addition to you reef tank. An added plus if you have any gobies in your tank, as they will form a sembionic relationship. The pistol shrimp will spend all day constructing the burrow while the goby will serve as a gaurd for the shrimp. Be warned, the shrimp will make a loud "popping" or "snapping" sound, hence its name, when it sounds threatened. This can be annoying to some aquarists. |

The Bullseye Pistol Shrimp (Alpheus soror) is sometimes called a Two Spot Snapping Shrimp. It belongs to the family named Alpheidae. Typically reaching a max size of about 2.2 inches in length, the Bullseye Pistol Shrimp is passive in nature and hardy in stamina. It's more active during the daytime and less at night, and will hang out or do best in the substrate. According to FishDB current data, captive breeding success is unreported and there are no external signs of sexual differences. Alpheus soror in general should have standard (3 watts/gallon) light to thrive. Tank parameters should be maintained with ph level between 8.1 - 8.4, temperature between 77 - 79 degrees fahrenheit, and a salinity between 1.020 - 1.023. Some of the environmental concerns that you should strive to replicate in your home aquaria to promote succesful acclimation include a deep substrate, rockwork structure, plenty of hiding spaces, and a species only tank.
