notes
The Blue Velvet Damselfish initially is a very attractive specimen but as it ages, the bright colors turn more to a gray, brown, or black variation.
overview

The Blue Velvet Damselfish (Paraglyphidodon oxyodon) is sometimes called an Oxydon Damselfish, a Neon Velvet Damselfish, a Blue-Streak Damselfish, or a Javanese Damselfish. It belongs to the family named Pomacentridae. Typically reaching a max size of about 6.0 inches in length, the Blue Velvet Damselfish is aggressive in nature and moderately hardy in stamina. It's more active during the daytime and less at night, and will hang out or do best in the rock structures. According to FishDB current data, captive breeding success is unreported and there are no external signs of sexual differences. Paraglyphidodon oxyodon should not be housed in a tank less than 30 gallons in size. Tank parameters should be maintained with ph level between 8.1 - 8.4, temperature between 72 - 78 degrees fahrenheit, and a salinity between 1.020 - 1.025. Some of the environmental concerns that you should strive to replicate in your home aquaria to promote succesful acclimation include plenty of hiding places and a stable cave/sheltering ledge.

I have a Blue Velvet Damsel and have thoroughly enjoyed this specimen. I added it to a 'predator' tank that I was setting up and he has fit in well with my common lionfish, panther grouper, and porcupine puffer (porcupine fish). I certainly intend to keep adding to my tank, but he has certainly been a great addition to this tank because of his aggressiveness.
