notes
A notable variation of the True Percula Clownfish(Amphiprion percula). Aside from coloration, there is not any great degree of difference. However it is more rare, and will typically command a high price to aquire one. Typically associates with Ritteri(Heteractis magnifica) and Carpet(Stichodactyla sp.) anemones.
overview

The Black and White Percula Clownfish (Amphiprion percula var.) is sometimes called a Black Perc or a Black Percula Clown Anemonefish. It belongs to the family named Pomacentridae. Typically reaching a max size of about 3.0 inches in length, the Black and White Percula Clownfish is semi-aggressive in nature and sensitive in stamina. It's more active during the daytime and less at night, and will hang out across the entire tank. According to FishDB current data, captive breeding success is unreported and there are no external signs of sexual differences. Amphiprion percula var. should not be housed in a tank less than 20 gallons in size. Tank parameters should be maintained with ph level between 8.1 - 8.3, temperature between 77 - 79 degrees fahrenheit, and a salinity between 1.020 - 1.023. Some of the environmental concerns that you should strive to replicate in your home aquaria to promote succesful acclimation include plenty of hiding places.

Early on in my fish hobbying, I chanced upon a black and white percula and thought it would fit right in with my 2 Clarkii clownfish. I was wrong. The Clarkiis picked on the clownfish severely and eventually killed him because I did not know the warning signs to take him out of the tank. While they are a beautiful and unique fish, make sure you put them with compatible tank mates.
