The Atlantic Blue is an interesting Tang. As a juvenille it is not blue at all. It is yellow with the exception of a blue ring around its eye and some blue trim along its fins. However, as it matures it becomes blue overall, except some retain a yellow tail. A nice specimen for the reef environment. As with most other tangs, best to keep one of its shape and size, unless in very large aquariums. |

The Atlantic Blue Tang (Acanthurus coeruleus) is sometimes called a Blue Tang or an Atlantic Blue Surgeonfish. It belongs to the family named Acanthuridae. Typically reaching a max size of about 9.0 inches in length, the Atlantic Blue Tang is generally passive in nature and moderately hardy in stamina. It's more active during the daytime and less at night, and will hang out across the entire tank. According to FishDB current data, captive breeding success is unreported and there are no external signs of sexual differences. Acanthurus coeruleus should not be housed in a tank less than 75 gallons in size. Tank parameters should be maintained with ph level between 8.1 - 8.3, temperature between 77 - 79 degrees fahrenheit, and a salinity between 1.020 - 1.023. Some of the environmental concerns that you should strive to replicate in your home aquaria to promote succesful acclimation include extra swimming area and a well established aquarium.
