This is not as a Starfish you would purchase, but as an identification for one you may find in your tank. Asterina stars will "hitch" their way on live rock and begin showing up in your tank from time to time. They are typically around a quarter to half an inch in diameter, and can can reproduce quickly by fission. Typically harmless, however they can begin feeding on corals so keep an eye out. |

The Asterina Starfish (Asterina sp.) belongs to the family named Asterinidae. Typically reaching a max size of about 1 inches in diameter, the Asterina Starfish is passive in nature and hardy in stamina. It's more active during the daytime and less at night, and will hang out or do best on aquarium walls. According to FishDB current data, captive breeding success is good and there are no external signs of sexual differences. Tank parameters should be maintained with ph level between 8.1 - 8.4, temperature between 77 - 79 degrees fahrenheit, and a salinity between 1.020 - 1.023. Some of the environmental concerns that you should strive to replicate in your home aquaria to promote succesful acclimation include porous live rock.
