notes
The Achilles is a striking fish, with its deep purple and blue body and vivrant orange markings. However, it can be a bit difficult to keep happy. It needs a large aquarium with a steady, strong water flow. In smaller enviroments, it can become very stressed and unhappy. As with other Surgeonfish(Tangs) best to keep only one of its shape and kind unless in a very large aquarium.
overview

The Achilles Surgeonfish (Acanthurus achilles) is sometimes called an Achilles Tang. It belongs to the family named Acanthuridae. Typically reaching a max size of about 9.0 inches in length, the Achilles Surgeonfish is semi-aggressive in nature and moderately hardy in stamina. It's more active during the daytime and less at night, and will hang out across the entire tank. According to FishDB current data, captive breeding success is unreported and there are no external signs of sexual differences. Acanthurus achilles should not be housed in a tank less than 100 gallons in size. Tank parameters should be maintained with ph level between 8.1 - 8.3, temperature between 77 - 79 degrees fahrenheit, and a salinity between 1.020 - 1.023. Some of the environmental concerns that you should strive to replicate in your home aquaria to promote succesful acclimation include extra swimming area, a well established aquarium, and a strong water current.
