notes
Although the Cuvier Bichir is semi-aggressive, it should be housed with large passive tank mates. Unless your specimen is large enough, other semi-aggressive tank mates will harass it. Any tank mate that the Cuvier Bichir can fit in its mouth may become a tasty snack.
overview

The Cuvier Bichir (Polypterus senegalus) is sometimes called a Senegal Bichir. It belongs to the family named Polypterididae. Typically reaching a max size of about 12.0 inches in length, the Cuvier Bichir is semi-aggressive in nature and hardy in stamina. It's more active during the evening hours or at night and less so during the day, and will hang out or do best in the substrate. According to FishDB current data, captive breeding success is and there are no external signs of sexual differences. Polypterus senegalus should not be housed in a tank less than 100 gallons in sizeand in general should have low (2 watts/gallon) light to thrive. Tank parameters should be maintained with ph level between 6.5 - 7.5, temperature between 77 - 80 degrees fahrenheit, Some of the environmental concerns that you should strive to replicate in your home aquaria to promote succesful acclimation include extra swimming area, plenty of hiding places, and a stable cave/sheltering ledge.
